For just the second time in 2020, our Roar Women are back on home turf, hosting Canberra United in a crucial match at Lions Stadium.
The two sides met early on in the season, with the Roar travelling to the nation’s capital and returning with all three points.
With the Roar in the hunt for a third-straight finals berth, midfielder Katrina Gorry, who returns to the squad following a one-match suspension, says everyone is back each other to play their role on Sunday.
āFinals are on the line but at the end of the day we have full belief in our squad and our players,ā Gorry said.
āIf we play at our best and believe in the processes, weāll get through and get the win against Canberra.ā
Head Coach Jake Goodship echoed Gorryās comments, describing the game as a āmust-winā for our Roar Women.
āWe never look beyond the game coming up, weāve got to build as they come,ā Goodship said after training on Friday.
āItās a massive game this weekend. If we have any hopes of playing finals, every game is a must-win.”
The Roar are hoping to bounce back from a disappointing result away to the Glory last weekend. Goodship’s squad fell desperately short of a miraculous comeback, but there were positives to take from the clash.
āThey started on the front foot and weāre 3-0 down. But our response to that from the 35th to 95th minute was great so weāre going into the game now with a little bit of confidence.
āIn the second half we deserved to score three, four goals.
āBut weāre looking like a good team and we do create these chances so thereās nothing to be concerned about. Weāre going to create chances again on Sunday, but weāre hopeful of now putting them to bed.ā
Goodship is expecting a tough match from Canberra, as they look to finish their season on a high.
āWeāve got some big players in our squad who will step up, they like the big occasions.
āBut weāre expecting them to give Heather [Garriock] a send-off, itās her last game. Weāre not expecting an easy game at all.ā
