Our Roar Women have played out a tense scoreless draw with Sydney FC at Leichhardt Oval on Thursday night.
Both sides created quality chances throughout the 90 minutes and had their opportunities to take all three points, with the Roar’s best chances falling to Tameka Yallop who was matched by strong saves from the Sky Blues keeper.
Captain Clare Polkinghorne was at her best in the heart of defence, marshalling a back four that rarely offered a dangerous Sky Blues attack a look at goal.
The result is the Roar’s second straight clean sheet having earned four points in the space of as many days on the road against two of the league’s top sides.
“I thought we deserved the win,” Yallop said post-match.
“A point is a point, we were going for three. We played well, defended well and I thought we had some good chances as well.”
A Round 11 bye ahead of the international break means it’s almost a month until the Roar Women next take the field with the next challenge a trip west to face the Glory on February 15.
