While our local Roar women are back on the training pitch ahead of the Westfield W-League 2019/20 season, many of our players have laced up their boots for the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States.
Round one of the NWSL kicked off over the weekend, with last season’s Roar Women Celeste Boureille, Yuki Nagasato, Carson Pickett, Claire Polkinghorne and Chioma Ubogagu all taking part in the action.
Captain Clare Polkinghorne, played a crucial role in the heart of defence for Houston Dash in their 1-1 draw with Seattle Reign at BBVA Compass stadium.
Obogagu and Pickett returned to the familiar purple and blue of Orlando Pride and faced off against Boureille’s Portland Thorns & it was Boureille who claimed bragging rights this time round with the Thorns running out 2-0 winners.
Finally, Yuki Nagasato opened her season with an assist for Westfield Matildas Captain, Sam Kerr as the Chicago Red Stars played out a 1-1 draw with North Carolina Courage.

Our NTC girls bagged their third win of the NPLW Queensland season with a 4-2 victory over Mitchelton at Teralba Park on Saturday afternoon.
Abbey Lloyd scored a brace as third placed Capalaba defeated Westfield W-League teammate Dani Ward’s Western Pride 3-1 at John Frederick Park on Friday night. The result keeps the Bulldogs within touching distance of Allira Toby & Natalie Tathem’s league-leading Moreton Bay United, who defeated The Gap 3-2.
