Smith: Points will come

Brisbane Roar captain Matt Smith says the team is not panicking following consecutive narrow losses to Adelaide United and Perth Glory.

The Roar was unfortunate to give up the lead in both games, losing 2-1 against Adelaide and 3-2 to Perth in the first two rounds of the Hyundai A-League 2014/15 season.

Smith said that this week’s training has focused on fixing the small one percent mistakes that have cost the team.

“We know that points will come,” Smith said.

“If people want to judge us and write us off after two games then let them do that but for us, we’re more than focused on what we need to do and it’s just about transferring that from training and trying to get it right in the games.”

With a mouth-watering Friday night clash against old rivals Sydney FC this week, Smith said his side are as fired up as any other game.

“If you look across the league now, there are derbies, there are rivalries, there are massive fixtures and that’s fantastic for the A-League,” he said.

“Every single weekend there’s huge buzz that flies around the league and it’s the same for us as players.

“Sydney FC is a big game but we won’t be more or less motivated than what we were against Perth or Adelaide.”

The last time Sydney FC came to Suncorp Stadium was back in round two of last season, when Brisbane beat the Sky Blues 4-0 in front of over 20,000 fans.

Brisbane Roar host Sydney FC tomorrow, Friday, 24 October at Suncorp Stadium. Kick off is at 7pm. Tickets available from Ticketek.
