Brisbane Roar Football Club can confirm that Stefan Mauk has been handed a one (1) match suspension by the independent Match Review Panel (MRP) for the red card he received during the second half of Friday’s Hyundai A-League match at Coopers Stadium against Adelaide United.
Mauk will be suspended for the Roar’s Round 7 fixture against Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday, 9 December.
“Although we are disappointed with the circumstances surrounding Stefan Mauk’s red card during Friday night’s match, the club accept the one-match suspension,” BRFC Managing Director David Pourre said.
“We are disappointed with the conduct of certain players from the home side and feel the match officials should have handled the situation better. However, we commend the actions of the Adelaide United captain, Isaias, for his quick thinking in looking after the wellbeing of Stefan and ensuring the situation didn’t escalate further whilst he was unconscious and prone on the ground.
“It is time to draw a line in the sand. Our number one priority is continuing to look after the wellbeing of Stefan and preparing him for his return to action against Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium on 14 December.”
BRFC and the player will not be making any further comment at the time.
