Brisbane Roar forward Kijah Stephenson has full belief that her squad can return to the winners’ circle and are on the hunt to secure a spot in finals football.
Following the narrow 3-2 loss away against Western United last Sunday, Stephenson said the playing group are remaining positive and determined to bounce back this Saturday.
“We’re proud of our performance, a bit disappointed with the result and the penalty towards the end if the game but we’re staying positive. We’re getting around each other and looking forward to this weekend hopefully we can get a result,” she said.
The 21-year-old said that finals remain in sight for the ambitious Roar side, it is just a matter of securing wins to climb the ladder.
“Finals are definitely in sight. We have full belief that we can make it, we just need to keep playing well and focus in training.”
With three goals so far this season, Stephenson is pleased with how she is tracking personally and attributes her success in front of goal to her teammates.
“It’s been really good for my player development and confidence in the games. I obviously can’t do it without the support of the team, getting around me and basically putting those balls on a platter for me,” she said.
“There’s lots of stuff to improve on still but just moving forward.”
Looking ahead to Newcastle Jets this Saturday evening at Maitland Sports Ground, the young forward has her eyes on the three points to get Roar back to winning ways.
“It’s going to be a tough game; it was a tough game last time we versed them. We just need to stay focused and play through the whole 90 minutes.”
