Tameka Yallop Named in Australian Olympic Squad for Paris 2024

Brisbane Roar midfielder, Tameka Yallop has been selected in the Matildas squad to compete at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Australia will face USA, Germany and Zambia in Group B of the Paris 2024 Women’s Football Tournament taking place from July 25 to August 10.

Yallop, who has 129 caps and 13 goals for the Matildas heads to her third Olympics after a season which saw her claim five goals and five assists upon her return to Brisbane.

Sharn Freier has been named as the travelling reserves (known as Ap athletes under Games accreditation). The travelling reserves can be selected as a replacement athlete onto the Australian Olympic Team in case of injury or other withdrawal of one of the selected 18 athletes

Former Roar players, Clare Polkinghorne, Mackenzie Arnold, Katrina Gorry, Hayley Raso, Katilyn Torpey and Cortnee Vine have also been named in Tony Gustavsson’s 18-player squad.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Women’s Football Tournament will feature 12 teams across three groups.  The top two in each group will advance to the quarter-finals and will be joined by the two best third-place teams.

Australia will play their group stage matches in Marseille and Nice and will open their Olympic campaign against Germany on 25 July 2024 (7.00pm local / 3.00am AEST) at the Stade de Marseille.

Three days later they will take on Zambia on 28 July 2024 (7.00pm local / 3.00am AEST) at the Stade de Nice.

As they did at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the Matildas will conclude their group stage action against the United States on 31 July 2024 (7.00pm local / 3.00am AEST) returning to the Stade de Marseille.

Paris 2024 will be the fifth appearance of the Matildas in the Olympic Women’s Football Tournament (2000, 2004, 2016, 2020, 2024) with the team recording their best-ever finish of fourth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
