Captain Tom Aldred has today committed his long-term future to Brisbane Roar, penning a new deal at the Club.

Aldred joined the Roar ahead of the A-League 2019/20 season and has quickly established himself as one of the fiercest defenders in the competition.

The former Motherwell and Blackpool defender became just the Roar’s sixth Club captain ahead of his maiden campaign down under and has led from the front since Day 1.

After journeying across the world just 18 months, Aldred is thrilled to have his long-term future confirmed.

“It was a huge decision to come to the football club, obviously moving across the world but right from the word go I have really enjoyed my time here,” Aldred said.

“We had a few discussions about where the club was going, and it wasn’t a difficult decision to stay for longer.

“For me to tie my long-term future down here is an incredible thing for me. It allows me to firmly focus on football and really focus on helping to build success here in Brisbane.”

“I feel like we’ve built a fantastic team and we have the core of what is needed to do really well, and by that, I mean play in finals and win trophies.

Head Coach Warren Moon said: “Tom has had an immeasurable impact on the club, particularly in the playing group, over the last two seasons.

“His leadership, both on and off the field, is of the highest quality. He has been a superb captain of our Club, one that leads by example, sets the standards and that his teammates look to for guidance.

“He has signalled his intent to be part of the success we are building here in Brisbane Roar and we’re beyond thrilled to have him on board for the coming seasons.”

CEO David Pourre added: “The title of Brisbane Roar Club Captain is one very few players can say they have held, and Tom has been an outstanding leader during his first two seasons at the Club.

“We are excited about the years ahead for our A-League squad.”
