Valiant Roar downed by clinical Sydney

Brisbane Roar has gone down to a clinical Sydney FC 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at AJ Kelly Park.

Looking for redemption after their loss to the Sky Blues earlier this month, the home side started strong.

However, Sydney applied pressure to their defence early on with goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff missing the match through injury precaution.

The visitors found their opening goal in the 13th minute before doubling their lead 10 minutes later.

The Roar found their rhythm after the half hour mark but the Sky Blues added a third just before the break.

Eager to change their fortunes in the second half, Roar came out with a renewed spirit, creating a handful of close chances on goal.

However, Sydney managed to add a fourth just seven minutes into the second half.

Roar continued searching for a goal, and was rewarded for their efforts when captain Ayesha Norrie broke into the box to score her fourth A-Leagues goal.

Brisbane Roar’s Liberty A-League will have a break next week before returning to AJ Kelly Park to face Adelaide United on Sunday 15 January.
