‘We’ll be back’: Roar starlet backs group to right weekend’s wrongs

Roar midfielder Alicia Woods says the squad will use their Round 4 bye to refocus and prepare for their next Ninja A-League fixture, aiming to bounce back from Sunday’s narrow defeat.

After two strong opening wins, the Roar fell 1-0 to Western Sydney Wanderers in Round 3, conceding a late goal in the 88th minute. Woods, who has played every minute in Roar’s three matches this season, reflected on the match.

“It wasn’t our day. We didn’t get rid of the ball in our defensive actions, and in attack we didn’t have the right opportunities,” she said.

“We’ve got two weeks to now build on that and focus on things we need to work on. We’ll be back.”

Woods praised the balance of good culture and competition within the squad. “The girls get along really well. There’s a good drive in the team and lots of competition for spots. “I think we’ve got a really good squad this year with lots of depth. We’re excited to see some of the young ones come out and show their worth on the pitch as well.”

The Roar will return to action in Round 5 against the Newcastle Jets on November 30.
