Brisbane Roar forward Dylan Wenzel-Halls turned plenty of heads in his debut Hyundai A-League campaign.

After joining the club from NPL Queensland outfit Western Pride the 21-year old bagged five goals in 20 appearances for the club and claimed the club’s Breakthrough Player of the Year award.

The youngster was also voted by the fans as La Dolce Vita Player of the Month for February & March and took home Hyundai A-League Goal of the Month in March for his scintillating strike against Western Sydney Wanderers at Suncorp Stadium.

Wenzel-Halls was rewarded for an impressive first season at Brisbane Roar, signing on with his hometown club.

The young striker said he was still pinching himself following his first full season as a professional footballer.

“I’m really happy with how my season panned out, if you’d said to me this time last year that I would’ve played 20 odd games in the [Hyundai] A-League and scored five goals I would’ve said no way.”

“It was an honour to be out there with some of the players around me like Matt McKay, Henrique and Luke DeVere.”

Ipswich raised Wenzel-Halls added the opportunity to play in front of friends and family at Suncorp Stadium had been special.

“It’s awesome, I’ve got my family and my friends, lots of people supporting me out there so it’s a proud moment to run at Suncorp in front of some good fans and give my all,” he continued.

After marking his first start for the club with a goal against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium in Round 17, Wenzel-Halls went on to net five goals in his maiden Hyundai A-League campaign.

His favourite goal? A 90th minute winner against the then defending Premiers Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium.

“I think the Sydney goal, the Western Sydney Wanderers goal was one of my favourites as well but the Sydney goal was special to me.”

“In a difficult season to score the winner at Suncorp in front of family and friends in the 90th minute – I don’t think it gets much better.”
