Why Friday night’s home clash is the biggest Roar women’s match in five years

The Brisbane Roar must beat Perth Glory at home tomorrow night to stay right in the hunt for their first A-League finals since the 2020-21 season.

Sitting seventh on the ladder with just two games remaining, the Roar need to climb into the top six to qualify for finals football. Mid week results elsewhere in the league have ramped up the pressure, making both of the Roar’s remaining matches must-wins.

Tomorrow night’s six-pointer against Perth Glory, the last home game of the regular season, is a make-or-break clash. On paper, little separates the sides: the Roar sit just one point above Perth, with both teams on seven wins and an identical goal difference.

Roar spirits are high after last week’s thrilling 4–2 win over the Newcastle Jets, with young forward Daisy Brown starring with three goals and an assist.

“Everyone is really excited and we’ve done a lot of prep. After the last game we are super motivated to make it happen,” said key midfielder Tish Woods, who has started in all 18 matches this season.

The Roar will be without hat‑trick hero Daisy Brown and dynamic midfielder Zara Kruger, both called up to represent Australia’s U20 side at the AFC Championship in Thailand.

But, key returns balance the ledger. Seasoned defender Angie Beard and number one goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln return from international duty, having represented the Philippines and Australia, respectively, at the AFC Asian Women’s Cup.

Also, 134-capped CommBank Matilda Tameka Yallop, sidelined for most of the season with injury, has gradually come off the bench in recent matches, bringing leadership, experience, and a timely boost to the squad.

“I think it will come down to fight and which team shows up on the day,” Woods said.

Kick‑off has been pushed back an hour, to allow fans and families more time to arrive post-work, with Brisbane Roar hosting Perth Glory at 7pm AEST on Friday night at Spencer Park.

Win, and the Brisbane Roar could make the knockout stages for the first time in half a decade. Lose, and they may have to wait until next season for another chance. Everything is on the line.
