Young Roar eager for NYL season opener

New Foxtel National Youth League Head Coach James Robinson is confident the Young Roar will be able to implement the structures and processes consistent throughout Brisbane Roar Football Club.

Robinson was appointed to the position eight weeks ago and the former Hyundai A-League Champion is familar with the club’s goals.

Hyundai A-League Head Coach John Aloisi has stated his desire for all Roar teams to play the same brand of possession-based, high tempo football and Robinson is aware of the role he plays in that system.

“We know our process and structures will deliver the results that we want. That’s the one club, one family feel,” Robinson said.

“We play how the first team and Westfield W-League teams play which I believe is important.”

The Young Roar’s Foxtel NYL 2016/17 season gets underway on Saturday against Melbourne Victory at Spencer Park (kick-off 4pm QLD time) and Robinson is confident the team’s hard work in pre-season will translate into a strong performance this weekend.

“We’ve been making sure our structures are solidified and we’re ready to go come Round 1 on Saturday,” said Robinson.

“We’re competing against elite players but we believe in what we’re doing here.”

Several Young Roar players have been training with the Hyundai A-League squad, gaining invaluable experience while seeing first hand the standards demanded at the highest level.

“We’ve got a lot of players who’ve been in and around the first team and that’s down to John [Aloisi] wanting to give youth a chance,” said Robinson.

“John [Aloisi] is putting down that platform and giving players an opportunity to stake a claim.”

With the National Premier League and NYL both providing a spotlight, promising young players now have a clearer pathway to the Hyundai A-League and Robinson is quick to extol the virtues of regular competition.

“You can train for twelve months of the year if you want but nothing beats games. Games at a high intensity will bring competition and drive standards,” Robinson said.

“Healthy competition is always going to get the best out of players.”
