Young Roar hit Victory for six

Our Young Roar have extended their lead on top of the Foxtel Y-League Conference A ladder with a big win over Melbourne Victory Youth at Lions Stadium on Sunday.

An incredible six first-half goals had the Young Roar well in control of the contest from the early stages with Head Coach Drew Sherman saying that his side had been building to this kind of performance.

ā€œI think that game has been coming. We speak about making sure weā€™re good in both boxes so [that] we keep a clean sheet and we take on the opportunities to score,ā€ Sherman said post-match.

“15 minutes into the game and itā€™s dead. We killed the game.

ā€œWe had the opportunity to do that in previous matches and we couldnā€™t quite put those chances away, but this game has been coming and it’s a mark of just how good this group of young players are.ā€

Brisbane dominated from the opening whistle, creating countless chances and putting Victory under the pump as early as the second minute as Oliver Duncan opened the scoring.

The Young Roar had another chance in the twelfth minute when Barnettā€™s magnificent long-range effort was palmed away by Sutton for a corner.

However, Lleyton Brooks soon made it two as he dashed through the Victoryā€™s half and confidently slotted past Sutton to extend the Roarā€™s lead.

Four minutes later and the Young Roar had a third. Daniel Leck was the recipient of a skilful piece of play from Brooks, ghosting into the box and firing home before bagging a brace four minutes later.

Leck was only denied by the underside of the crossbar only moments later, but eventually polished off his hat-trick in the 34th minute with an impeccably-placed curling effort.

Mirza Muratovic then finished clinically in the 43rd minute to put the game well beyond doubt as the Young Roar went six up.

The home side were unable to add to their lead in the second half, but starved the visitors off opportunities, holding on to a clean sheet in an emphatic victory.

The Young Roar head to Marden Sports Complex after the Christmas break to face Adelaide United on Sunday, 20 January at 6:30pm.
