Brisbane Roar Youth head in to Saturday’s Foxtel National Youth League match with Adelaide United at A.J. Kelly Park (10:30am KO) refreshed and confident.
The side are itching to get on the park after last weekend’s clash with Melbourne City was postponed after 40 minutes due to a thunderstorm.
Senior squad member Shannon Brady has been among the Young Roar’s best in the opening rounds, scoring twice.
He says there is an element of responsibility for the Hyundai A-League contracted boys in the Young Roar side to set the tone and be role models.
“All the senior boys need to lead by example and set the scene for the young boys,” Brady said.
“It’s great that we’ve had a good start to the season and hopefully that continues on Saturday,”
The 20-year-old has been in scintillating form in the Young Roar’s unbeaten start to the Foxtel NYL season and with eight Hyundai A-League appearances under his belt, has ambitions to return to the senior squad.
“All the boys have ambitions to play A-League and as injuries and fatigue kicks in towards the end of the season that’s when chances pop up and it’s great to have a strong NYL season,” Brady said.
The Young Roar have a game in hand on the Reds who currently sit second in Conference A.
With a chance to record back-to-back wins and leapfrog tomorrow’s opponents into second place, Brady says the focus is squarely on the Young Roar side and building on an impressive start.
“You have to be selfish at times but first and foremost it’s about the club and trying to win games,” he said.
