Our Young Roar have continued their winning run with a 2-0 victory over Western Pride at Logan Football Complex on Sunday night.
Goals from Jyi Oakes and Solomon Weldemariam proved decisive as Young Roar secured a first ever league double over Western Pride.
Young Roar opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Bradyon Doolan rounded Pride keeper Max Davison and squared to Oakes who made no mistake with his first time finish.
Substitute Weldemariam marked his senior NPL debut with a goal in second half stoppage time, turning home a Lleyton Brooks cross at the back post to round out the 2-0 win.
Speaking post-match Young Roar Head Coach Jake Goodship said he was delighted after another strong showing from his side.
“I’m very happy with the performance, it’s good to get the win and a clean sheet against a hard working Western Pride team,” Goodship said.
“We showed good togetherness tonight and quality at times, we also had to dig in, there was a seven or eight minute period in the second half where we were defending deep and hanging on so it’s very pleasing to see that from the lads.”
Goalscorer Solomon Weldemariam became the latest youngster to impress on his senior NPL debut.
Goodship said the continued impact of the club’s youngsters was proof of the success of the BRFC Academy.
“It’s fantastic to see another young boy coming in and scoring on his debut, there’s been a number of debuts already this season, hopefully there are a few more and it shows how successful our academy program is.”
The Young Roar coach added there is plenty left to come from his side as we enter the second half of the season.
“It was a very good squad performance following on from a fantastic week in training through to pre match preparations today the standards have been really good, everyone’s lifted 5% and we’ll continue to build on that.”
“We’re still not satisfied as a staff and playing group with where we are but we’re building towards something really good,” Goodship concluded.
Young Roar’s attention now turns to a clash against Redlands United at Logan Football Complex on May 29.
