Zadkovich: Focus on turning positive performances into three points

Brisbane Roar Coach, Ruben Zadkovich said his side are focused on turning positive performances into three points ahead of Friday’s Isuzu UTE A-League Round 22 clash against Western Sydney Wanderers at CommBank Stadium.

Roar start the weekend in eighth position on 26 points, eight shy of the sixth placed Wanderers and knowing three points are crucial in keeping their finals hopes alive.

Roar come into Friday’s match after suffering a 1-0 away defeat at the hands of league leaders, Wellington Phoenix in their last outing.

Despite their 19 efforts on goals Roar were unable to find a breakthrough against a resolute Phoenix side who took all three points thanks to Bozhidar Kraev’s second minute strike.

“That mentality has been great I think l you saw last week against Wellington we’re going away from home to the league leaders and we’re taking the game to them and that’s important,” Zadkovich said.

“I think that’s the Brisbane Roar spirit, that’s the DNA of this football club, that’s where the success came with that type of mentality and attitude and we’ve got to get back to that so we’ll continue to try and build on our positive performances and try and turn them into results.”

The Roar boss, who is yet to taste defeat at Suncorp Stadium during his tenure in Brisbane said his side wouldn’t stray from their processes as they focus on a strong finish to the 2023/24 campaign.

“In both boxes it’s been like that a little bit this season I think for the boys, we haven’t been clinical enough, Sydney away, Macarthur at home they’re all games where we’ve created more than enough chances to win the game but we can’t let that disappointment or frustration dictate our process either,” Zadkovich said.

“I’m very big on staying process driven and the players as much as we want to win – it’s definitely the number one, we don’t hide behind that but given the context of where the club’s at I think right now, staying really true to a clear process and a clear playing style and looking to improve is really important, it’s paramount for us so I think if we can improve on Friday night, which I expect and I want us to do then I think we can go there and get three points.”

Friday’s match at CommBank Stadium kicks off at 6:45pm and will be broadcast live on Paramount+.
