Lucas Herrington was crowned Roar’s Young Player of the Year after the 17-year-old central defender made a seamless transition into A-League football, appearing 17 times and becoming a mainstay in the starting eleven in an extremely impressive debut season.
The ball playing central defender, who stood out with his defensive presence, game awareness and ability to break lines earned a three year scholarship deal ahead of the 2024/25 campaign after five years in the club’s NPL set up, which he joined as a 13-year-old.
17-year-old’s strong showings, which included a maiden A-League goal in the sides 4-3 win over Sydney FC in January were rewarded with a spot in the Young Socceroos side that won the U20 AFC Asian Cup in February.
The teenager, who played his junior football for Taringa Rovers, Toowong and Brisbane City won 70% of his duels and 72.1% of his aerial duels in his first top flight season.
in 2024/25 Herrington averaged 6.7 clearances per 90 and 1.0 blocks per 90, topping to charts amongst his teammates for both metrics whilst on Jay O’shea bettered the teenagers 2.8 accurate long balls per 90.
