Freke: Roar Hungry to Keep Building

Brisbane Roar goalkeeper, Macklin Freke says his side are looking for another big performance in Saturday’s Isuzu UTE A-League Round 17 clash against Perth Glory at HBF Park.

With just ten rounds remaining of the 2023/24 regular season Roar sit eighth on 21 points, just two points shy of the competitions top six, while Glory, who are on a four-match unbeaten run are in eleventh position of 16 points.

Roar come into Saturday’s match on a two-match unbeaten run, including a stunning 5-1 win over defending Premiers, Melbourne City last weekend thanks to goals from Thomas Waddingham, Kai Trewin, Jay O’Shea and Keegan Jelacic.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday’s match, Freke said his side wouldn’t be resting on their laurels after last weekend’s big win over City.

“You don’t get those wins so often in football, they might come once or twice a season if you’re lucky so while you accept that high and you ride that high a bit you can’t dwell on it too much and that wins in the past now,” Freke said.

“But we take that with us as a form of confidence and we’re really excited to see what we can build on that.”

Freke who has made 68 saves this season, the fourth most of any goalkeeper in the competition added his side were hungry to keep building on last weekend’s win with a big performance in Perth on Saturday night.

“It’s obviously a tough place to travel but I think all the boys are really up for it at the moment, we’re excited to see how we can improve and keep learning under Ruben (Zadkovich),” Freke said.

“This is just obviously his third game and another big test for us but you know we’re confident and we’re hopeful that we can go there and focus on us and put on a performance that we’re proud of.”

Saturday’s match at HBF Park kicks off at 8:45pm and will be broadcast live on Paramount+
