Brisbane Roar will face Wynnum Wolves for the first time in NPL Queensland action when the pair go head-to-head in Round 5 at Meakin Park on Sunday afternoon.
Young Roar come into Sunday’s match off the back of a 2-1 win over a Lions side, who were top of the league with maximum points to their name ahead of last weekend’s match up at Luxury Paints Stadium.
The sides traded blows through Rylan Brownlie and James Enticknap before Ty Cobb popped up with a 92nd minute winner to seal a first win of the 2024 campaign for Young Roar.
Young Roar sit level with Olympic in eighth position with four points to their name after the opening four rounds of the 2024 NPL Queensland season.
Newly promoted Wynnum, who are playing in the NPL for the first time have made a strong start to life in Queensland’s top flight – winning three of their opening four matches.
Graham Fyfe’s side, who have several former Young Roar players in their line up including George Earwicker, Jakob Mudnic, Aaron Dempsey, Deegan Brook and Nigel Poinapen pulled off a stunning 4-3 come from behind win against Olympic after trailing by three goals at half time last weekend.
Looming as key for Wynnum will be English frontman, Luke Francis who has an equal league best five goals to his name so far while for Young Roar Rylan Brownlie will be looking to add to his return of three goals for the season.
In Sunday second match Roar’s U23 side, who sit a point off top spot will look to make it three matches unbeaten and build on a 5-2 win over Lions last weekend that included a pair of braces from Zac Fowler and Eremugo Debele as well as a Riley Gill goal.
Fowler, who has six goals to his name so far sits top of the U23’s top scorers charts alongside Lions, Niall Thom.
