Young Roar have been handed a 4-2 defeat by Gold Coast Knights in NPL Queensland Round 6 action at Lex Bell Oval on Friday night.
Goals from Shae Cahill and James Nikolovski weren’t enough as a Godfrey Debele brace coupled with strikes from Zander Guy and Bradden Inman gave the league leaders all three points.
Guy opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he pounced on a loose bal on the edge of the area before driving into the box and poking a low finish under Lachlan Duke at the near post.
Inman doubled the hosts lead four minutes later when he got the decisive touch on a goal mouth scramble following a Sam Klein strike from range.
Debele was rewarded for his tenacity with a quick fire brace in the latter stages as the opening half as the defending Champions took the ascendancy in Friday’s match.
Roar pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time through Cahill, who slammed an effort into the bottom corner with a powerful strike from range.
Nikolovski netted his second goal in as many games, when he rose highest to meet a James Durrington cross and send a downward header past Joshua Langdon and into the back of the net.
Friday’s 4-2 defeat leaves Young Roar in eighth position on the NPL Queensland ladder ahead of next Sunday’s clash against Peninsula Power at Meakin Park.
The U23 match between Gold Coast Knights and Young Roar was postponed as a result of the wet weather that hit south east Queensland on Friday.
