The 2024/25 season was Brisbane Roar and the A-League’s 20th campaign as Australia’s Premier football division.
It was a challenging campaign for Brisbane, who finished the season in 12th position on the A-League ladder.
Roar endured a lean start to the season however their fortunes improved following the club’s January transfer window with the side taking five wins from their last 14 games.
Attacking reinforcements aided Roar’s cause including Asumah Abubakar who netted four goals and two assists in eleven appearances and Henry Hore, who found the back of the net three times after returning from his loan in Korea with Gangwon FC.
MILESTONE MEN
Club Captain, Jay O’Shea was awarded the Gary Wilkins Medal and Player’s Player after leading by example throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
The midfielder who becomes the first player to win the Gary Wilkins Medal three times provided the most goal contributions for Roar throughout the campaign with three goals and six assists.
His 7.51 FotMob rating saw O’Shea ranked eighth in the league and earned him a nomination for 2024/25 Shark Fan’s Player of the Year.
The Roar Captain was Brisbane’s only player to play every minute of the 2024/25 campaign, becoming just the eighth man in club history to make 150 A-League appearances for Roar.
2024/25 was a momentous season for Jack Hingert, who overtook Matt McKay as the club’s record appearance holder.
The fullback now holds the record for most Brisbane Roar appearances in all competitions (309) and most A-League appearances for Brisbane Roar (276).
The 34-year-old also became just the 13th player to reach 300 A-League games.
Hingert joined Scott Neville in the 300 club, with Neville bringing an 18-year professional career to a close and hanging up the boots after reaching the milestone against Western Sydney Wanderers in January.
The 36-year-old defender played six seasons at Roar, having returned from an eleven-month injury lay off after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament to reach 100 A-League matches in Roar orange earlier in the season.
Ben Halloran also hit 200 A-League games in what was his first season back in Brisbane since 2013.
YOUNG GUNS
Lucas Herrington was crowned Young Player of the Year, the 17-year-old central defender made a seamless transition into A-League football appearing 17 times and becoming a mainstay in the starting eleven in an extremely impressive debut season.
The defenders strong showings, which included a maiden A-League goal in the sides 4-3 win over Sydney FC in January were rewarded with a spot in the Young Socceroos side that won the U20 AFC Asian Cup in February.
The teenager who came through the Roar NPL program won 70% of his duels and 72.1% of his aerial duels in his maiden A-League campaign.
21-year-old, Sam Klein a former Roar academy midfielder from the Sunshine Coast who’d played just four minutes of A-League football prior to the 2024/25 campaign returned to Roar after playing in the NPL for Gold Coast Knights and enjoyed a breakout season to remember winning the club’s Golden Boot Award.
Klein finished as the sides top scorer with five goals to his name, after appearing 19 times – which included starts in all of the sides final 11 matches and missing just 13 minutes in that run.
After netting four goals in the first half of the season Thomas Waddingham sealed a move to English Championship side Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.
The 19-year-old scored 11 goals in 34 A-League appearances for the Roar, departs as the league’s second highest scoring teenager of all time behind Nestory Irankunda.
Another youngster to impress in his debut season was Jacob Brazete who quickly became a fan favourite with his directness and dribbling ability.
The 19-year-old winger who scored one goal along with two assist from 21 appearances average of 4.1 successful dribbles per 90 was only bettered by Melbourne Victory’s Daniel Arzani.
Young Roar duo, James Durrington and Ivan Ozzi along with Pearson Kasawaya all made their A-League debuts throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
