Brisbane Roar has signed Australian youth international Steven Lustica on loan until the end of the club-s Hyundai A-League and AFC Champions League commitments.

Lustica has been loaned to the club from Croatian powerhouse Hajduk Split.

The Canberra-born midfielder has spent two seasons plying his trade in Croatia making 19 appearances – including appearances in the UEFA Europa League – and 10 appearances on loan at second division outfit Dugopolje during the 2011/12 season.

Brisbane Roar Head Coach Mike Mulvey, who worked with Lustica at Gold Coast United where he was National Youth League player of the year in 2011, said the 21-year-old-s addition to the squad would help add midfield options.

“Steven is an excellent professional and will fit in very well with the players we have at the club,” Mulvey said.

“He is a hard worker and will give us another option in our midfield structure.

“Another important asset he has is he-s a young Australian player who is eager to succeed and make his mark.

“That drive and determination are two things which can only be beneficial to the squad.”

Lustica was part of the Gold Coast United team which won back-to-back National Youth League Championships and made four senior appearances for the club before leaving for Hajduk in June 2011.

He was also part of the Hajduk side which this season beat Inter Milan 2-0 at the San Siro, coming on as an 83rd minute substitute.
