After setting the National Youth League on fire as a 16-year-old and going on to share the 2010 Brisbane Roar Youth player of the year award with goalkeeper Matt Acton, Kenneth Dougall has proven that he is one to keep your eye on.
Now in his second season at the club, 17-year-old Dougall has continued his rapid rise and has been a consistent presence in the Brisbane Roar Youth midfield featuring in 16 of the side-s 17 matches.
Dougall puts his success down to his hard work ethic and believes that the opportunity to work with the Brisbane Roar Hyundai A-League side has been great for his development.
“I have always been told by coaches to give my best every game, so I just try to work hard on the field and hopefully my efforts help the team get the result,” said Dougall.
“I have been really thankful for the opportunity to work extensively with the First team boys this season and it has really helped me improve as player.
“There is a great vibe amongst the first team boys and it inspires you to work harder on the training paddock and do everything you can to get to that level yourself.”
The young midfielder is one of the Roar Youth-s Queensland Academy of Sport graduates and feels that his time in the much more physical Queensland State League has made him a much more intelligent player.
“Being at the QAS and playing in the Queensland State League was a real important aspect in my growth as a footballer, playing against older guys makes you learn very quickly and helps you build your confidence on the ball,” Dougall said.
“However since I have joined the Roar-s Youth team I have thoroughly enjoyed playing in a less physical and more technical competition.”
With a difficult away trip to Newcastle on Friday, Dougall is confident his side will be able to end their difficult run of three losses in a row and is looking forward to continuing his push for an eventual Hyundai A-League berth.
“No one likes to lose, however the side has really grown over the last few weeks and definatley have what it takes to end the season on a high,” Dougall said.
“Every game I play I just work hard and put in my best possible performance for the team, I-m confident that I will be rewarded for my efforts in the long run.”
