Brisbane Roar super sub Rocky Visconte has likened the feeling of Sunday’s last-gasp win over Perth Glory as similar to winning a final.
In his third appearance for Brisbane, Visconte popped up in the last minute of injury time to steer a sublime pass from fellow substitute Mitch Nichols into the back of the net, giving his team a well deserved 2-1 victory.
Even after the arduous trip west, Visconte said the team was not content with taking the lone point, saying it was not in their nature to settle for a draw.
“Perth is the longest trip for us and to grab the winner the way it happened in the last minute, it was like we-d won a final,” the 20-year-old said.
“All the boys had big smiles on their faces.”
“We-re a very fit team, and we-ve got a lot of depth in our squad this season.
“We-re looking for the last 20 minutes to be our strongest and we won-t give up until the very end.”
Admitting there was slight confusion from spectators as to whether the last touch was his or Perth defender Andy Todd, Visconte said he would take credit for the goal after seeing the replay, his first in the Hyundai A-League.
“I think I got the last touch,” he said.
“I know it wasn-t the cleanest of finishes but it-s always good to get off the mark.”
While he said each player in orange was worthy of man-of-the-match honours during the week nine clash, the Adelaide-born striker highlighted the hard work of Nichols in the final half hour as key to Brisbane-s success.
“All the players were doing their jobs well, and no one was slacking off so that-s good,” he said.
“All credit to Mitch as well, it was a brilliant ball through.
“He-s done well the past two weeks coming off the bench, we-ve both made good impacts so hopefully we can keep it going.”
With the three home games in seven days following the international break, Visconte was looking to continue his run of form for Brisbane.
He said he was hoping for another chance to impress in front their vocal supporters, especially on their October 16 match against Newcastle Jets, where kids under 15 gain entry to Suncorp Stadium for free.
“Coming off the bench, you always want to do something good, I always look up to the clock to see how much longer I-ve got to get a goal or create something,” he said.
“I started getting into the squad first, then I got my chance on the bench, and now the next step is trying to get into the starting eleven and hopefully with the more chances I get, I do get to that stage.
“We-ve got three home games in a row coming up, and hopefully if I do get on the bench then and get some game time, I-ll keep trying to do my best and create chances and put another goal away.
“So far we-ve been strong at home and we-re obviously looking to get maximum points from those three games.
“We know we can achieve that, and if we keep doing our job, we know we can close the gap at the top of the table.”
