Brisbane Roar has today locked in its youngest ever player for the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.
Seventeen-year-old Izaack Powell has signed on at the Roar as a Hyundai A-League Scholarship player for the coming campaign, following two impressive debut games last month.
The exciting full-back became the youngest player to represent Brisbane Roar in the Hyundai A-League earlier this year, making his debut off the bench against Sydney FC at just 16 years, 361 days.
“The hard work I’ve been putting in all year is starting to pay off, but this is just the beginning,” Powell said.
Powell, who was also a key member of the Foxtel Y-League Championship-winning Young Roar squad, is the latest in a long list of the Roar’s younger brigade who have been given opportunities at a senior level.
“The coaches provide a great transition here between the Youth team & the first team and that definitely helps the younger players and it feels more natural when they get their opportunity,” Powell continued.
Interim Head Coach Darren Davies is pleased to have the exciting Queensland talent locked in at his hometown Club.
“We’re delighted that Izaack has committed to the Club,” Davies said.
“It’s great to again see a young player at this Club taking his opportunity & Izaack is an exciting Queensland talent who has a very bright future ahead of him.”
The Roar return to Hyundai A-League action back at Suncorp Stadium this Friday night against Western Sydney Wanderers (6:50pm KO).
The young up-and-coming defender is also ditching the locks & raising funds for charity as a participant in Shave for a Cure later this month. Click HERE to donate.
