Brisbane Roar has wrapped up a week-long training camp in Gladstone with a comprehensive 11-0 win over a Football Central Queensland Select on Saturday afternoon.
A terrific week for Queensland’s only Hyundai A-League Club in the Gladstone region was polished off in front of a stellar local crowd at Marley Brown Oval
Irishman Jay O’Shea led the scoring for the Roar, netting four times, twice either side of half-time, to open his account for his new club.
Ahead of his maiden Hyundai A-League campaign, Australian Brad Inman also scored his first goals for the club, bagging a brace, while English defender Macaulay Gillesphey, George Mells and youngster Dauntae Mariner grabbed their first goals in orange as well.
Irish talisman Roy O’Donovan’s first-half double took his tally for the pre-season to four while Stefan Mauk got off the mark for the 2019/20 pre-season thanks to his second half strike.
“It was terrific to see so many passionate football fans in the stands today to witness a historic day for both the Gladstone region and the Brisbane Roar Football Club,” Brisbane Roar CEO David Pourre said post-match.
“We would like to thank the Gladstone Regional Council and the Gladstone community for their hospitality throughout the week, as well as all those involved behind the scenes in today’s memorable encounter.”
Saturday’s result takes the Roar to three wins from as many outings for the pre-season ahead of their first competitive hit-out against Sydney FC in the FFA Cup Round of 32 on Wednesday, 7 August.
