Last week one of our Young Roar’s most successful NPL QLD seasons to date came to a close.
Our Young Roar wrapped up their 2019 NPL Queensland campaign with a 1-1 draw against Magpies Crusaders United at Eric Evans Oval on Saturday night.
Saturday’s result sees our Young Roar, who finished the season in eighth position, yield their highest points return in an NPL Queensland campaign with 36, while scoring a club record 61 goals in the process.
A strong 2019 NPL Queensland campaign comes off the back of the Club’s first ever Foxtel Y-League title. The Roar topped Conference A before securing a grand final victory over Western Sydney Wanderers to take out the title.
From this side, young guns Izaack Powell, Aaron Reardon, Jordan Courtney-Perkins, Jay Barnett & Zac Duncan all made competitive first team debuts for the Club with Powell and Courtney-Perkins both breaking records to become the Roar’s youngest ever players before their respective 17th birthdays.
In total, 16 Young Roar players earned minutes with the first team this calendar year, their contribution highlighted in last week’s clash with Perth Glory in the first Surf City Cup clash. An incredible 12 BRFC Academy players were involved in the matchday squad for the 1-0 victory over the defending Hyundai A-League Premiers.
Striker Mirza Muratovic continued his rich vein of form in front of goal, scoring for the first team in the second Surf City Cup clash two days later against the Newcastle Jets, as well as in an earlier pre-season clash against Redlands United.
The 19-year-old also bagged also one of the best ever returns for a Young Roar player in the NPL QLD, scoring 13 times along with his five goals in the side’s successful Foxtel Y-League campaign.
Eight players signed professional or scholarship Hyundai A-League contracts at Brisbane Roar, while a further six progressed into professional ranks at other Clubs.
On the international stage, ten BRFC Academy products received call-ups for national youth team training camps and matches.
During our Young Roar’s 2019 NPL Queensland campaign 51 players were used, including 14 seventeen-year-olds, six sixteen-year-olds and three fifteen-year-olds.
The hard work doesn’t stop for our BRFC Academy with preparations for next season’s Foxtel Y-League and NPL Queensland already in full swing while a number of our youngsters continue to train with our Hyundai A-League squad.
