Brisbane Roar have been edged by Western United at Suncorp Stadium in the inaugural fixture between the sides.
Two first half goals against the run of play were enough for Western United to take the points in Brisbane.
Connor Pain opened the scoring early after getting on the end of Alessandro Diamanti’s well-weighted ball across the box and poking it past Jamie Young.
Besart Berisha added another on the stroke of half-time as he guided the ball home from Aaron Calver’s pinpoint cross.
“We’ve lost to two sucker punches. We have dominated the game in terms of possession, chances created, corners etc.,” Head Coach Robbie Fowler said post-match.
“We keep saying that we need to show more quality in the final third and that’s probably the only thing we’re lacking.
“All we can do is keep creating, keep trying to get the best out of the players and eventually there’ll be a time where we get lucky – we’re crying out for a lucky goal. We’re dominating games, we just need a little luck.”
The Roar face a bye next week ahead of Christmas before closing out 2019 with an away fixture against the Jets in Newcastle.
