A new face will patrol the technical area in Brisbane Roar’s Westfield W-League clash against Canberra United on Sunday.
Head Coach Jake Goodship will remain in Brisbane for the contest on family grounds with his partner expecting a child in the near future.
Assistant Coach Kelly Crew, who has recently obtained her Football Australia ‘B’ License, will take the reins for the first time on a Westfield W-League Game Day this Sunday at Viking Park.
As well as being one of the key members behind the scenes in our Westfield W-League set-up, Crew is also heavily involved with both school football and the Queensland Academy of Sport program and is honoured by the opportunity.
“[Head Coach] Jake [Goodship] has been really confident in the change and it’s an honour to be given the chance to lead this group, and what a group they are!” Crew said.
“I will do my usual duties on game day, as well as doing my best to lead and manage the group, but they know what needs to be done, they take charge of that and we’re looking forward to a big game on Sunday.”
Head Coach Jake Goodship added: “It’s a testament to Kelly, as well as our set-up here at the Club, that this opportunity was possible for this weekend.”
“Despite the small change, our processes and structures do not alter. The players have been the key drivers behind our successes so far this season and have conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism every day, and we are expecting nothing different on Sunday.”
The fixture is also likely to be captain Clare Polkinghorne’s 150th Westfield W-League fixture for the club. Polkinghorne would be the second to reach the milestone in the league’s history and the first to play all 150 matches for the one club.
