YOUNG QUEENSLANDERS

Brisbane Roar continued their vision of nurturing young Queensland talent and that was showcased with a number of young stars taking centre stage this season.

Grace Kuilamu, Isabela Hoyos, Zara Kruger and Ruby Cuthbert all represented the Young Matildas this year. Kuilamu had a stellar season after returning to the pitch from an ACL injury she acquired last year, scoring five goals in 18 games played this season. Hoyos made her Brisbane Roar debut and contributed to a solid defensive line at just 16-years-old. Kruger scored her first goal with the club in Round 15 away to Western Sydney Wanderers. Cuthbert was sidelined for the majority of the season with a hamstring injury but returned to play three games and was selected for international duty.

Laini Freier earned her first call-up to the CommBank Matildas in February ahead of the SheBelieves Cup in the United States alongside club captain Tameka Yallop. This followed a stellar season from the 23-year-old after scoring seven goals in nine games and becoming the first player to score back-to-back hat tricks in the Ninja A-League.

Her sister, Sharn Freier, signed for Bundesliga giant VfL Wolfsburg for a club record women’s fee and she is set to depart Roar now that the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season has concluded.

The Freier sisters were finally able to play alongside each other after Laini overcame her ankle injury and made her debut in Round 5 away in Wellington, before running out together at Perry Park in Round 6 against the Mariners.

21-year-old Sunshine Coast product, Alicia Woods, had a standout season in orange after making 23 appearances, with a goal to her name. The midfielder was awarded the Young Player of the Year by Head Coach, Alex Smith.

MILESTONES

Club captain, Tameka Yallop, surpassed Matildas teammate Clare Polkinghorne’s record for most caps in club history after playing her 153rd Brisbane Roar match in a 3-0 win over Perth Glory at Perry Park in Round 3.

Yallop has an outstanding season, achieving the titles of second all-time goal-scorer in the league, the first player to score five hat tricks and Brisbane Roar’s leading goal-scorer.

Mariel Hecher and Keeley Richards both announced their retirement from professional football after playing their final Ninja A-League match in Round 23 against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.

Mariel Hecher joined Roar ahead of the 2020/2021 campaign and has since become a mainstay at the club where she has made a total of 48 appearances, scored four goals and made four assists.

Keeley Richards made her Roar debut in Round 20 of the 2023/24 campaign, stepping into goals after Jordan Silkowitz was recalled to her parent club. The goalkeeper made 10 appearances for the club.

RECORD CROWDS

It was another record-breaking season in the stands, with spectator figures rising yet again for the 2024/25 Ninja A-League season.

A new club record crowd for a standalone Ninja A-League match was set with 3,712 people attending Roar’s Round 12 clash against Adelaide United at Perry Park in January.

Brisbane Roar extends a huge thank you to all those who supported us throughout the season, we’ll be back for another big season in 2025/26.
