ALW R3 Preview: Brisbane Roar v Perth Glory

Brisbane Roar return to Perry Park this Friday night for a clash against Perth Glory as they look to make it back-to-back wins on home soil.

Roar go into Friday’s match off the back of a statement 1-0 victory over defending Champions, Sydney FC at home last weekend.

WHAT WAS SAID

“Coming off a win is always a good thing for a team,” Head Coach, Alex Smith said.

“We’ll have to be ready for them but I’m pretty confident that if we put in a similar performance as we did against Sydney, we’ve tweaked a few things, worked on a couple things, if we can do that even better in the game on Friday night, I’m confident we can get the three points and go into Unite Round on the back of two wins,” he added.

Defender Deborah-Anne de la Harpe was pleased with the squad’s performance against Sydney FC and aims to take this winning form into Friday night’s clash.

“I thought it was a really solid performance,” de la Harpe said.

“We showed desperation as a whole group and we’re just genuinely enjoying our football and the style Alex has us playing,” she added.

“I think that’s such a great way for us to start the season. We all absolutely love playing at Perry Park and when you see the stands are full, it’s awesome.”

LAST TIME WE MET

In their last meeting, Roar defeated Perth Glory 2-0 at Perry Park in Round 21 of the 23/24 season.

Kijah Stephenson had opened the scoring with a stunning chip over goalkeeper Morgan Aquino with such composure to claim the lead.

Just before half-time, Sharn Freier tucked Roar’s second of the match away at the bottom left corner to seal the 2-0 victory.
