ALW R9 Match Preview: Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory

Brisbane Roar are back on home soil for a midweek clash against third-placed Melbourne Victory at Perry Park on Wednesday night.

After being defeated 2-1 by Canberra United on Saturday, Roar will have their sights set on bouncing back in front of home support against Victory.

WHAT WAS SAID

Head Coach Alex Smith aims to make up for Saturday’s loss with a positive result at Perry Park on Wednesday evening.

“Victory let themselves down just like we did over the weekend so I’ms are we’ll both be raring to go, both teams wanting to make up for that,” Smith said.

Holly McQueen has been a regular starter for Brisbane Roar this season, and looks forward to the opportunity to bounce back from last week’s result tomorrow night.

“That’s the best thing about football, there’s always another game and this one’s even sooner so we’re all sticking together and the vibes are great,” McQueen said.

“[Melbourne Victory] are always a strong side, they always finish up there on the table. It’ll be a tough game but we’re ready for it.”

LAST TIME WE MET

In their last meeting, Brisbane hosted Victory at Perry Park in what ended in a 2-1 loss to the visitors.

Victory had opened the scoring in just the fourth minute from a corner set piece after Emma Checker found the back of the net after chaos in the box.

In the 36th minute, Tameka Yallop got the right touch on a hovering ball to equalise 1-1.

A penalty was given away in the 77th minute for Victory to take the lead and secure three points.
