Brisbane Roar 2024/25 End of Season Awards Wrap: Yallop & O’Shea claim club’s highest honours

Brisbane Roar announced their 2024/25 award recipients and celebrated these club achievements on Saturday at The Westin Brisbane as Tameka Yallop and Jay O’Shea claimed the Club’s top individual honours.

Roar’s club captains were joined by exciting young Queenslanders, Alicia Woods, Lucas Herrington & Sam Klein in receiving accolades on the night.

Roar’s A-League Women’s Captain, Tameka Yallop cleaned up the Kate McShea Medal, Player’s Player and Golden Boot after a stellar campaign in Roar orange.

Roar Captain Yallop, who finished as the league’s second highest goal scorer with 12 strikes to her name was nominated for the Ninja A-League Shark Fans Player of the Year after winning Player of the Month three times throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

The Roar skipper who overtook Claire Polkinghorne to become the club’s all time leading appearance holder this season also finished with the leagues’ fourth highest FotMob Player rating.

Yallop’s backheel finish in Roar’s Round 13 clash against Perth Glory at the Sam Kerr Football Centre was nominated for Isuzu UTE Goal of the Year.

A few weeks after the scoring at the Sam Kerr Football Centre, Yallop who was this week named in the PFA Team of the Season overtook the Matildas striker as the competition’s second all time highest goal scorer behind Michelle Heyman.

Club Captain, Jay O’Shea was awarded the Gary Wilkins Medal and Player’s Player after leading by example throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

The midfielder who becomes the first player to win the Gary Wilkins Medal three times provided the most goal contributions for Roar throughout the campaign with three goals and six assists.

His 7.51 FotMob rating saw O’Shea ranked eighth in the league and earned him a nomination for 2024/25 Shark Fan’s Player of the Year.

The Roar Captain was Brisbane’s only player to play every minute of the 2024/25 campaign, becoming just the eighth man in club history to make 150 A-League appearances for Roar.

The 36-year-old completed the most accurate passes per 90 (56.0) and most accurate long passes per 90 (3.7) for the club in his fifth A-League campaign in Brisbane.

21-year-old, Sam Klein a former Roar academy midfielder from the Sunshine Coast who’d played just four minutes of A-League football prior to the 2024/25 campaign returned to Roar after playing in the NPL for Gold Coast Knights and enjoyed a breakout season to remember winning the club’s Golden Boot Award.

Klein finished as the sides top scorer with five goals to his name, after appearing 19 times –  which included starts in all of the sides final 11 matches and missing just 13 minutes in that run.

The midfielder who primarily showcased his attacking prowess in the A-League this season, had previously operated as a more defensive midfielder.

Klein averaged 1.2 successful tackles per 90 and number only bettered by Walid Shour throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

Lucas Herrington was crowned Young Player of the Year, the 17-year-old central defender made a seamless transition into A-League football appearing 17 times and becoming a mainstay in the starting eleven in an extremely impressive debut season.

The defenders strong showings, which included a maiden A-League goal in the sides 4-3 win over Sydney FC in January were rewarded with a spot in the Young Socceroos side that won the U20 AFC Asian Cup in February.

The teenager who came through the Roar NPL program won 70% of his duels and 72.1% of his aerial duels in his maiden A-League campaign.

Herrington averaged 6.7 clearances per 90 and 1.0 blocks per 90, topping to charts amongst his teammates for both metrics whilst on Jay O’shea bettered the teenagers 2.8 accurate long balls per 90.

Head Coach Alex Smith has awarded Young Player of the Year to 21-year-old Alicia Woods after she scored her first ever Ninja A-League goal in Round 12 against Adelaide United and excelled in the midfield this season. 

Woods, who played in every match of the 2024/25 campaign created 29 chances throughout the season, a number only bettered by Tameka Yallop.

The 21-year-old 0.9 successful dribbles per 90 were the third highest of any Roar player throughout the season as were her 2.6 accurate long balls per 90.

The all action midfielder also offered plenty to the side defensively, averaging 3.3 succesful tackles per 90 and 2.0 interceptions per 90 throughout the season – the highest number of any Roar player.
