Brisbane Roar are making the most of the week off due to the international break and Interim Head Coach Nick Green has used this time to implement his coaching philosophy into the squad and tweak certain details.
After the Roar’s 1-0 triumph over reigning champions Western United, Green says there has been a positive environment around the camp.
“The atmosphere around the training group this week has been really positive, as it has been for the last four weeks but it’s even sweeter after the victory,” he said.
The Roar are using this time as a mental break and a time to focus on what needs to be improved moving forward into the remaining games of the season.
“This week’s been used to embed a few important details on what we’re trying to implement in terms of the playing style and philosophy,” Green said.
“Also, to give the players a mental break and actually brush up on some of the intensity in terms of conditioning and what we’re trying to get into the players as well,” he added.
Joe Knowles’ injury has been on the up, as he is expected to join back into the training group as of next week.
“It’s been really good for Joe Knowles to just get an extra week under his belt so we’re expecting Joe to come back into the training group next week so that’s really positive.”
Green is not dismissing finals aspirations just yet as he looks forward to next week’s match-up against fourth place Central Coast Mariners for an opportunity to put up a fight.
“We’re looking forward to the game against Central Coast, it’s a really great opportunity for us at this late stage in the season to put a fighting chance of making the finals potentially into place,” he said.
“And it’s one that we are relishing this opportunity for in this game next week.”
“There’s been some positives that we’ve had this break in between everything as well, and that’s been really good for the two young players that have gone over with the Australian U23s Jordan Courtney-Perkins and Kai Trewin.”
