Brisbane Roar secure win for first pre-season hit out against Strikers

Brisbane Roar played their first training match against Brisbane Strikers on Monday night at Underwood Park winning 2-0 to secure their first win in pre-season.

Head Coach Ross Aloisi’s starting line-up consisted of 13 NPL players which gave them the opportunity to play alongside the senior team and saw them showcase some outstanding talent on the night.

Henry Hore scored the opener in the second minute after a cross in by trialist, Kur Kur set him up for a great finish.

Roar did not waste any time, scoring the second in the eighth minute after a delightful cross by Carlo Armiento found NPL forward Fernando Nash to make it 2-0.

Ross Aloisi thought the Roar’s first hit out as a team went successfully as the squad were able to gel as a group and understand the structures Aloisi aims to achieve.

“We always want to win. I think the more important thing for us was the way we performed and how the players were starting to understand our structures, and our patterns so that’s the pleasing thing for us,” he said.

“We got in behind them plenty of times and had a lot of crosses and should’ve scored a lot more goals than what we did, but in saying that, it was a good performance especially in the first half,” he added.

Aloisi was pleased with the performance displayed by the Youth players and believes it was a good opportunity to see how they are tracking.

“In the second half, the young boys coming in, our Youth team players, we had a 15-year-old out there, a couple of 16-year-olds, they did quite well,” Aloisi said.

“The thing for us is that we need to look from within, we need our NPL players training with us because they are a very young group. Seeing who is ready to make that step up and who needs a little bit more time.”
