Brisbane Roar’s NPL side were victorious against Eastern Suburbs on Sunday evening at Heath Park after a hat trick of goals saw them take away the three points.
It was a memorable night for Lucas Herrington and Arthur De Lima, who were in the starting 11 for the first time.
On the counterattack, a through ball found Roar forward Fernando Nash to tuck the ball away at the bottom left corner to open the scoring in the 20th minute.
Nash beat Eastern Suburbs’ defence to put a cross in for Ty Cobb in the 32nd minute in front of goal to make it 2-0.
Three minutes later, Isaiah Quinn scored his first goal in the NPL in style with a long-range strike.
Eastern Suburbs found a goal before the break, before scoring a shot from long-range in the 78th minute, but the victory was locked in for the boys in orange.
Head Coach Owen Baker was happy with his team’s performance and spoke about the importance of seeing young players develop and grow as footballers.
“We had a fantastic first half and I was really pleased with how the lads approached the game, especially the boys who played an NPL game for their first time. It was great to see how brave they were,” Baker said.
“The whole purpose of our academy is to develop and give these youngsters a chance. It’s great to see how far some have come on this year, last year they were playing under 15s or 16s football,” he added.
“We will keep pushing them and giving them every chance to develop as young men and footballers. I’m delighted for Isaiah, Lucas, and Quinn, they are 3 great lads who have been at the club for a few years now and are working hard each week to improve their game, they deserved the opportunity and all stood up to the task on Sunday.”
Brisbane Roar next face third-placed Moreton Bay United Jets on Sunday 13th August aiming to continue their winning form.
KO is at 6pm at A.J Kelly Park.
