Brisbane Roar welcome Sharn Freier as fifth signing for the Liberty A-League 2022/23 season

Brisbane Roar is pleased to welcome back versatile attacker Sharn Freier for the upcoming Liberty A-League Season.

Freier made 9 appearances, including 3 starts for the club during the A-League Women’s 2020/21 season, scoring her first professional goal in a 6-0 win over Melbourne Victory.

After missing last season while rehabilitating from a major knee injury, Freier is looking forward to another opportunity on the national stage with the Roar.

“I’m pretty excited, I only had that little bit of experience, so trying to build to get more game time is something that I’m looking forward to, as well as working with some of the NPL girls instead of playing against them!”

A Moreton Bay United junior, Freier broke through onto the National Premier Leagues stage with the Football QLD NTC program and The Gap before returning to her youth club for the 2021 season.

While her Football QLD return has been marked by the major injury, the 21-year-old has been working on continuing to develop as a player over the last year.

“We’ve been working on building strength in my knee as well as just rebuilding that confidence, it’s a bit scary coming back from my first major injury.”

“I’ve had a lot of support with Garrath and Yanek at the Future Matildas so I was in very good hands, just having that support was enough to get me through the rehab.”

Freier’s twin sister Laini, also a Moreton Bay player, suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury just before Sharn and the two were able to support each other through the recovery process.

“Having someone that close to me to be able to do my rehab with was a bonus, if there was one good thing to take out of that it was that.”

Freier is looking forward to re-joining the club and working on building on the improvements made late last season.

“I watched all of their games and felt towards the end of the season they really picked up again which was good to see, I’m looking forward to making a positive impact on the side when I am on the field.”

Head Coach McPherson is also looking forward to welcoming Freier back to the club ahead of his second season in charge, as he bolsters the squad with more exciting, Queensland talent.

“Sharn is a former NTC player and previous member of the squad. We were all devastated when she suffered a knee injury prior to last year’s campaign,” McPherson said.

“The fans can be excited at the prospect of seeing another young Queensland striker taking on defenders this season.”
