American goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz has been recalled to her parent club Kansas City Current after a stellar A-League breakout season with Brisbane Roar.
Since joining Roar at the start of the 2023/24 Liberty A-League season, Silkowitz has kept three clean sheets and made 71 saves.
Silkowitz will be sure to go out with a bang in front of home support when she stands in goals for the last time this Saturday in Roar’s Round 19 match against Central Coast.
The 23-year-old said her time at the club has been “absolutely incredible” after reflecting on her growth in the A-League and the invaluable experiences she will be returning to America with.
“It’s been so much fun to be able to travel around Australia playing the game I love with this group of people. This team is special staff, team, everyone included,” she said.
“I think I’ve grown a lot not only as a player but as a person, it’s my first time away from home. It’s been awesome to play the game I love, get to learn from different coaches. I feel really blessed to have gotten to learn from Dale and Alex and this team.”
Silkowitz still has her eyes on a top six finish and will no doubt look to go out with a bang in front of home support this Saturday as she looks to push her squad towards finals.
“The end goal is still top six and to send this team to play-offs. We’re just going to be looking on the three points last weekend. There’s no better way out than at home,” she said.
“The Brisbane fans and the community here has really welcomed me with open arms so we really value all the support they have for us so there’s no better feeling than playing my last game at home.”
Head Coach Alex Smith commended Silkowitz on her professionalism and goalkeeping flare she brought to the playing group this season.
“She’s been fantastic, she’s a good professional and she has a great mentality and is obviously a top goalkeeper. She’ll be sorely missed but that’s the world of football and where we are here in Australia with the loan players,” Smith said.
Keeley Richards will now become the starting goalkeeper for the remainder of the 2023/24 Liberty A-League season.
