Match Preview: FC Goa vs Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar continue their Bhausaheb Bandodkar Memorial Trophy campaign with a clash against FC Goa at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday night.

The sides head into Tuesday’s second group match level at the top of Group A on three points after recording comprehensive wins on matchday one.

Roar opened their tournament with a 5-1 victory over Dempo SC courtesy of a Thomas Waddingham brace along with goals from Walid Shour, Jay O’Shea and Jez Lofthouse.

Goa also triumphed on opening day, defeating Sporting Clube de Goa 4-0 with two goals from Spanish midfielder Borja Herrera and late strikes by Armando Sadiku and Boris Singh.

Goa, who finished third in the 2023/24 Indian Super League season are coached by Spaniard, Manolo Marquez who is also the Head Coach of the Indian National Team.

The Gaurs are home to former Western United winger Iker Guarrotxena, ex-Roar defender James Donachie has also previously been on the books of Goa.

Brisbane Roar Head Coach, Ruben Zadkovich said his side were looking forward to testing their mettle against Goa.

“They’re a good team, especially here on their home pitch. They’ve got some top class internationals and foreigners in their team, obviously some nice goals in their game too,” Zadkovich said.

“So far, so good. We’re really looking forward to it.”

The Roar boss added he’d been pleased by the togetherness shown by his players and staff throughout their time in India so far.

“It’s been nice to just see the way the players in the staff have really stuck together and just embraced every hardship,” Zadkovich said,.

“That’s what we want to be, a hardworking team, down to earth and a resilient team, so steps in the right direction.”
