Young Roar are back in NPL action on Friday night, making the trip down the M1 to take on defending Champions, Gold Coast Knights at the Croatian Sports Centre.
Roar come into Friday’s Round 6 clash on a three-match unbeaten run, having snatched a 1-1 draw at the death against Wynnum thanks to stoppage time James Nikolovski strike in their last outing.
Knights, who defeated Olympic 2-0 in their last match sit top of the league with four wins from five to their name so far this season.
The 2023 treble winners boast several ex-Roar players in their squad including Bradden Inman, Aaron Reardon, Sam Klein as well as Head Coach, Scott Mcdonald.
Roar currently occupy eighth position on the NPL standings with five points to their name after five rounds of action.
Knights frontman, Joel Russell sits level at the top of the competition’s top scorer’s charts on five goals, two clear of Young Roar’s leading scorer Rylan Brownlie.
The two club’s will go head-to-head in a top of the table clash in the U23 match which kicks off beforehand at 6:30pm.
Roar’s U23’s start the weekend top of the league standings on 12 points, two ahead of the second placed Knights.
Roar forward, Zac Fowler will look to add to his league best eight goals, while Knights Jordan Bekavac sits level in third in the chasing pack in the golden boot race with five to his name.
Two players who won’t be in action for Young Roar this weekend are Quinn MacNicol and Rhys Williams after the pair earned call-ups for the Joeys squad to travel to Italy for a pair of fixtures against Switzerland and Inter Milan.
Friday’s NPL Queensland match at the Croatian Sports Centre kicks off at 8:30pm and will be live streamed on FQTV and the Football Queensland YouTube channel with the U23 game getting underway beforehand from 6:30pm.
