O’Shea: Belief building ahead of City clash

Brisbane Roar midfielder, Jay O’Shea says belief is building amongst his side ahead of Saturday’s Isuzu UTE A-League Round 16 clash against Melbourne City at Suncorp Stadium.

Roar start the weekend in ninth position, three points shy of City who sit sixth on the A-League ladder.

Roar are at home for the second time in as many week’s with a last gasp Corey Brown header seeing Roar snatch a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw with league leaders, Wellington Phoenix in their last outing.

City, who have lost three of their last four are looking to bounce back after suffering a 4-2 defeat on the road against Perth Glory last Friday night.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match O’Shea said his side were ready to put in a big performance in front of their home fans at Suncorp Stadium.

“We’ve had a good week on the training pitch, a positive performance last week and a good point against a Phoenix side who are going really, really well, so we’re confident going into the game at home in front of our own fans,” O’Shea said.

“We love playing in front of our fans at Suncorp so we’re confident we can get a positive result.”

The midfielder, who leads the league in chances created added last weekend’s draw with league leaders, Wellington Phoenix had spurred belief that his side could propel themselves back into the competition’s top six.

“I think it gives the group a good belief, something that’s probably been missing for a few weeks now. It’s something that we need to get back into the group, I believe that we are a really good side, we showed that in the early part of the season and it’s still the same squad,” O’Shea said.

“Ruben’s (Zadkovich) come in now and he’s put a lot of belief into the lads and we’re getting some good sessions in his details are really clear and really positive what he wants us to do and the lads are really buying into it early on.”

Saturday’s match at Suncorp Stadium kicks off at 5pm and will be broadcast live on Paramount+
