Roar narrowly defeated by Peninsula Power in NPL

Brisbane Roar NPL QLD suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss against Peninsula Power at AJ Kelly Park on Sunday afternoon after a penalty secured their victory.

A long-range effort from Trent Millard in the 31st minute deflected off the crossbar for Fernando Nash to put the Roar ahead with his first NPL goal of 2023.

Just before half-time, Peninsula Power sent a free kick into the goal area for an unfortunate rebound off Zahi Addis into the goal for the equaliser.

Another slice of bad fortune presented itself to the Roar in the 49th minute, as a bouncing ball made contact with a defender’s hand.

Brenton Fox put the ball away and sent Power into the lead from the penalty spot to make it 2-1.

The Roar constantly pressed their opponents, but the final whistle saw Power take the three points.

Brisbane Roar NPL QLD Head Coach Owen Baker thought his squad dominated in some areas but were not able to capitalise on the 1-0 lead against a strong side in Peninsula.

“I thought we played quite well and dominated parts of the game but Peninsula Power are a good team and they had their moments where we had defend well but unfortunately, similar to the Brisbane City game, two errors cost us,” Baker said.

“The boys applied themselves very well, worked hard, definitely did enough to get something out of the game but against good teams, mistakes get punished,” he added.

“A disappointing way to lose.”
