Reigning Hyundai A-League Premiers and Champions Brisbane Roar will return to north Queensland this pre-season, accepting an invitation to play in the Wingate Properties Townsville Football Cup in August.
The Roar will contest the tournament against fellow Hyundai A-League clubs Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC between 24-30 August at Townsville Sports Reserve.
“This is a wonderful event for Townsville and football fans throughout the North Queensland region,” said Mayor of Townsville Jenny Hay.
Brisbane Roar Football Director Ken Stead was in Townsville today for the launch of the Wingate Townsville Football Cup, alongside Newcastle Jets coach Phil Stubbins and Sydney FC boss Graham Arnold.
“Next season is a big one for us, defending our title and playing in the AFC Champions League, and we-re pleased to have a tournament such as this to aid our preparations,” Stead said.
“As a club, we also recognise the importance of community engagement and visiting those fans around Queensland who support us from afar throughout the Hyundai A-League season and we-re looking forward to it.”
