Roar rally around Queensland football community with flood relief fundraising

Brisbane Roar and its supporters will rally around the state’s flood-affected football community through a range of fundraising initiatives aligned to the club’s Isuzu UTE A-League home match this Saturday, 12 March.

As the clean-up continues across the state’s south east and into northern NSW, grassroots administrators and volunteers are counting the cost of damaged infrastructure and equipment.

The Roar, a proud Queensland representative, has launched a tax-deductible donation vehicle through the Australian Sports Foundation for anyone able to provide financial support.

Gold coin contributions will also be collected at Moreton Daily Stadium entry points and around the venue on Saturday, with all funds to be distributed equally among the clubs most in need.

Those hit hardest have each been offered complimentary tickets for the match and will be presented with Roar memorabilia to auction.

“When we see and hear about lives being lost, homes being lost, it puts everything into perspective,” Roar CEO David Pourre said.

“The football community has not been immune to the devastation. Everyone will have seen the pictures of pitches being torn up, clubhouses being inundated. Our heart goes out to every person, every club impacted.

“Now is the time to band together and do what Queenslanders do so well. We have had a lot of conversations as a club about what we can do to help and our people have been out assisting with the clean-up, which has only just begun.

“If we can help raise some funds to speed up the recovery process then we are delighted to do that as well.

“We need our football community to come together, enjoy a great afternoon this Saturday and show some support for each other.”

To ease the burden for families, Brisbane Roar is offering up to two free junior tickets per every adult ticket purchased in the Orange, Black and Den seating categories.

Tickets are available now through Ticketek. The Roar’s clash with Wellington Phoenix kicks off at 4:05pm.

Anyone attending a Liberty A-League match in Brisbane this week can play their part by contributing a gold coin upon entry, with those proceeds going towards GIVIT – a not-for-profit organisation running flood appeals in partnership with the State Governments of Queensland and New South Wales.
