Brisbane Roar Academy secured their first victory of the 2023 NPL season when they defeated Olympic 1-0 at AJ Kelly Park on Sunday evening.
Captain James Nikolovski was the hero on the day, scoring for the first time in five years from a corner which rebounded off a pack of players before landing at his feet six yards out.
He couldn’t miss, and didn’t, sparking scenes of jubilation from a team looking to avenge the points given up last weekend when losing 1-0 to Lions.
It was a richly deserved three points for the team having come close in every game so far, three of those being against Premiership heavyweights.
Ultimately, it was resilience which provided the platform with all players working hard over the last twenty minutes and keeping last year’s Grand Final runners-up at bay.
Nikolovski was best on the day but special mention should also go to Cardiff Pond in goal, who was rock solid all game, and Noah McGrath in midfield deputizing for the injured Josip Milicevic.
