It’s no secret how impressive Brisbane Roar’s start to 2020 has been, but comparisons to the remainder of the league shows just how sparkling Robbie Fowler’s side has been since the new year.
After finding themselves towards the foot of the ladder at Christmas, a 1-1 draw against Newcastle shortly before new year proved to be a turning point for the Roar who haven’t looked back since.
The Roar’s 26 points amassed since January 1, 2020 is comfortably the most points earned by any side in the Hyundai A-League, easily accounting for Wellington & Melbourne City (both 21 points) and ladder leaders Sydney FC’s haul of 20 points this calendar year.
Only the Phoenix have accumulated more points on home turf during that time (18), while the Roar’s 17 points from seven home outings has significant space on the rest of the pack. It’s been more than three months since another side managed to topple the home team in Queensland.
Strong form in front of home fans has also been coupled with a number of impressive results on the road, including a New Year’s Day win in Western Sydney, a clean sheet in Ballarat & an extension on one of the most lopsided head-to-head records in Gosford against the Mariners.
It’s no surprise Robbie Fowler’s side find themselves all the way up to fourth position with four rounds remaining in the regular season.
