Brisbane Roar young gun Adam Sarota will be on a European fact finding mission when he joins team-mates Tommy Oar and Michael Zullo for a two-week training spell at Dutch based club FC Utrecht.
Due to travel to the Netherlands later this week, Sarota will keep his eyes and ears wide open as the Roar trio taste a small slice of one of the world-s top leagues – the Dutch Eredivisie.
“I-m really hoping to continue to raise my level of football experience,” Sarota said.
“I think the Dutch league is a very technical competition and would really suit my game.
And what’s good for the player could be better for the club, with the Roar youngsters expected to return with priceless information on training, coaching and club expertise.
“I want to see how professional (FC Utrecht) are, and then bring what I learn back to the Roar,” Sarota said.
No stranger to European football, Sarota was looking forward to returning to the continent, previously spending 18 months with the youth squad of the German based FC Koln.
Initially struggling with the language barrier and the pace of German football, Sarota quickly adapted to the country-s style of play, before returning home to start his career with the Roar.
However, Sarota will be back to square one when the Roar stars arrive in Holland, forced to face the challenge of adjusting to life at FC Utrecht.
“I think the big thing will be the weather,” the 21 year-old said.
“It-s coming into spring over there, but it will still be a lot colder than it is here in Brisbane.”
But despite the difficulties of adapting to new customs, culture and weather, Sarota will at least have the advantage of having a couple of friendly faces for company.
“It-s definitely much better going over with (Michael) Zulls and Tommy (Oar), than rocking up by yourself,” Sarota said.
“At least with those guys there you have a little bit of a support system.”
