Sharn Freier commits to Brisbane Roar on two-year deal

Brisbane Roar are delighted to announce that Sharn Freier has committed her future to the club after signing a two-year deal ahead of the 2024/25 Liberty A-League season.

Freier signed her first professional contract ahead of the 2020/21 season where she made 9 appearances, including 3 starts for the club and scored her first professional goal in a 6-0 win over Melbourne Victory.

She missed the following season due to recovering from an ACL injury, before bouncing back in the 2022/23 season where she played 16 matches, scored a goal, and grabbed 2 assists.

Last season, Sharn Freier made her mark on the left wing and started for all 22 games of the 2023/24 Liberty A-League campaign which saw her net 2 goals and contribute 5 assists.

It was a stellar season in orange for the young forward, impressing regularly and establishing herself as a key player in the squad which led to her first call-up for the CommBank Matildas.

Freier has just returned from the Paris 2024 Olympics with the CommBank Matildas after making her national team debut against Mexico in April. After originally being selected as a team reserve, she was brought into the match day squad for an injured Tameka Yallop and made her Olympic debut in a 3-0 loss to Germany in Round 1.

Last month, Freier made her first start and scored her first international goal in a pre-Olympic Games friendly against Canada in Spain.

Freier took out four awards at the club’s annual Season Awards Night, including Player of the Year (Kate McShea Medal), Young Player of the Year, Player’s Player and Fans’ Player of the Year after a season to remember for the 22-year-old.

Freier said she looks forward to continuing her time at Roar and building on last season.

“I’m excited to be re-signing with Roar. Brisbane is my home, and I love playing here in front of the amazing fans that show up each week,” Freier said.

“It’s always a privilege to wear the orange jersey and I’m excited to be able to get the opportunity to help the team build from last season.”
