Smith: Determined for three points

Head Coach Alex Smith anticipates a tough challenge from second-placed Melbourne City but is determined for his squad to secure a big three points in front of home support.

After previously coaching at City, Smith looks forward to coming up against his old club and hopes his squad can bounce back to winning ways on home soil.

“It’s Melbourne City. They’re near the top every year, one of the reasons that I did go down there was that they like to play football. They like to have the ball; it’s going to be interesting to see how we match up cause we’re very similar and I like to play very similar,” Smith said.

“It’ll be great, obviously know most of the players and staff but again, a good opportunity for us to continue to improve and hopefully put away some chances and come away with a good result.”

“It’s going to be a good battle between two footballing teams, there’s not going to be too many long balls, hopefully not too many transitions. It should be an entertaining game to watch from a football fan point of view!”

The international break was beneficial in giving Smith’s squad some time to reset ahead of the final five fixtures of the season.

“I think for us it was about recovering, just freshening up the body, we’ve been away quite a bit over the last two months, so it was good to give the girls a little bit of a rest. When we’ve been here, we’ve been working hard and trying to make the last five games as best we can,” Smith said.

“Really looking forward to playing at Perry in front of hopefully another good crowd, and hopefully we can make the fans happy and get the three points.”
